This past Sunday when John showed up at New Hope he was feeling awful. He had been sick with a cold, and as miserable as he was, it's even worse for a musician who plays and sings.
But as he led worship I couldn't tell he was even sick. He flat out brought it and played and sang with enthusiasm. That's one reason I love working with John. He is not lazy. Laziness is lame. Proverbs 10:26 (NLT) says it quite clearly, "Lazy people irritate their employers, like vinegar to the teeth or smoke in the eyes."
Yes, everyone has days when they feel like moping around, but as the leader or a leader the biggest thing you bring to the table, the meeting, or whatever is your energy and enthusiasm.
Now to be clear in our family we are thankful every time our puppy wants to be lazy and take a nap. She is full of energy and can go non-stop for quite a long time. While it may be fine for pets to be lazy, it's rarely acceptable to be lazy in the workplace.
There have been times when I go to town I tell Carol, "I hope I don't see anyone. I am just too tired to talk and engage in conversation." We all have those moments. And we must understand the rhythms of our own lives. For instance, I typically don't schedule meetings with people on Mondays. Those are the days I am recovering emotionally and physically from preaching on Sunday. However, when I show up at church on Sunday I know that I must show up with energy and a great attitude.
You can always show up with a great attitude and energy. It's a choice. It's the best choice because laziness is lame.
